Records from recent jobs

Three services, recorded before and after. Every property below sits inside the coverage area in section 09.

03.1  /  Roof & gutters  /  Rincon Valley
A gutter packed solid with wet oak leaves and pine needles, moss growing across the shaded shingles above it.

Fig 03.1a · Before

The same roofline with the gutter emptied and the shingles cleared of moss and leaf debris.

Fig 03.1b · After

Findings. Two seasons of bay leaf packed solid across the run, moss along the full north face. Cleared by hand, downspouts flushed, two joints resealed. Half a day.

03.2  /  Pressure washing  /  Fountaingrove
A concrete driveway stained with grey-green algae and dark oil spotting, looking down toward the street.

Fig 03.2a · Before

The same driveway washed back to clean even pale concrete.

Fig 03.2b · After

Findings. Oil spotting at the parking end, algae across the shaded half. Surface cleaner at full pressure, then rinsed down to the street. Four hours.

03.3  /  Defensible space  /  Oakmont
An overgrown juniper and deep bark mulch pushed right up against the siding of a house, dry brush along the foundation.

Fig 03.3a · Before

The same wall with the shrub and mulch removed and a clean bed of pale gravel running along the foundation.

Fig 03.3b · After

Findings. Juniper and bark mulch hard against the wall inside the first five feet. Removed and replaced with clear gravel. Two truckloads off site.

Sonoma County · Fire season advisory

The first thing to catch is usually the thing nobody inspects.

Needle pack in a gutter. Leaf litter sitting in a roof valley. Dead juniper and bark mulch pushed up against a wall. It is the least visible part of a property and the first part to take an ember.

Mark clears it, bags it and takes it away with him, so it leaves the lot instead of sitting in a pile by the kerb. Late spring is the time to book it, because by July the whole county has worked that out at once.

Section 05

Four things worth knowing before you book anyone

05.1

Quoted and done by the same person

No sales visit and no subcontractor you have never met. The man who walks your property is the man on the ladder.

05.2

Pressure matched to the surface

Redwood, stucco and concrete all want different settings. Soft wash where soft wash belongs, so nothing gets stripped or etched.

05.3

Fire clearing planned in advance

Roofs, gutters and the first five feet dealt with before the dry months, with everything hauled off the property.

05.4

A written price that holds

The number comes before the work. If something underneath is worse than it looked, Mark stops and asks you first.

Section 06

The person doing the work

A contractor on a ladder at the roofline of a house, pulling leaf debris out of the gutter by hand.

Plate 06 · M. GrumichOwner

“I have been cleaning houses in this county long enough that the same families call me back every year. I turn up when I say I will, I tell you honestly when something does not need doing yet, and I would rather do one house properly than three of them quickly.”

“Call me and ask. If it turns out I am not the right person for the job, I will usually know who is.”

Section 07

How a job runs, start to finish

Step 01

You ask

Send the form or call. Tell Mark roughly what is going on. Photos help but they are not needed.

Step 02

Mark takes a look

He walks the property and writes you a price. You do not need to be home for it, and you are not committing to anything by having him out.

Step 03

He cleans it

Booked for a day that suits you. Debris hauled away, hoses coiled, gate shut behind him. Photos sent when it is done.

Section 08

What customers said afterwards

★★★★★Roof & gutters

Our gutters had not been touched since we bought the place. Mark found a downspout packed solid that was pushing water into the crawl space, and showed me the photographs before he fixed it.
Placeholder nameRincon Valley

★★★★★Full exterior

We had a week before the house went on the market. Driveway, windows and the whole front elevation in a day and a half. The listing photographs look like a different property.
Placeholder nameWindsor

★★★★★Fire clearing

He cleared the slope behind our house before last summer and hauled every bit of it away. He also told us which two things could wait until next year, which nobody else has ever done.

Section 10

Questions Mark gets asked most

10.1What is this going to cost me?

It comes down to the size of the house, how many storeys, and how long it has been since the last time. That is exactly why the estimate is free and why Mark would rather come and look than guess over the phone. You get a written number before anything starts, and it does not move unless you ask for something extra.

10.2Are you insured?

Yes. Mark carries liability insurance and will send you the certificate before he starts. Ask for it, it is not a strange request.

10.3Could the pressure washer damage my siding or my paint?

It can, in the wrong hands and at the wrong setting. That is the whole reason Mark looks at the surface before he starts. Older redwood, stucco and painted trim get soft washed at low pressure, with the cleaning solution doing the work rather than the force. Concrete and stone take considerably more. If a surface is too far gone to wash safely, he will tell you rather than take the job.

10.4Do I need to be home?

No. Plenty of people leave a gate unlocked and come home to it finished. Mark texts you when he arrives and again when he is done, with photographs if you want them. If you would rather be there, that is fine too.

10.5How long does a job take?

Gutters and a roof clear on a single storey house is usually a morning. A full exterior with windows, driveway and siding is normally a day, sometimes two on a larger property. Mark tells you which when he quotes it.

10.6How soon can you come out?

Estimates are usually within a couple of days and the work within a week or two after that. Spring and the run up to fire season are the busy stretch, so if you are thinking about a summer clear out it is worth calling early.

10.7Can you come back every year without me having to remember?

Yes, and most people end up doing that. Gutters twice a year, once after the leaves come down and once before the rain. Fire clearing in late spring. Mark keeps the list and calls a couple of weeks beforehand to check the timing still suits you. There is nothing to sign and no charge for being on it.

10.8What happens to all the debris?

It leaves with Mark. Green waste, needle pack, gutter muck and cut brush go on the truck and off the property the same day. Nothing gets piled by your kerb for you to deal with.

10.9How do I pay?

After the work is finished and you have looked at it, not before. Card, cheque or transfer, whichever is easier for you.

One call and the outside of your house is off your list.

Free estimate, written down, no obligation. Mark on the other end of the phone rather than a call centre.
